Just a glitch
Just a glitch is part of the Ravenswood Australian Women's Art Prize @rawartprize
There is always a “before and an after’ after a defining moment. A combination of unpredictable circumstances generating something unexpected. How do mistakes, unforeseen events, blips in the system, impact their surroundings? Inspired by the concept of disruptive anomalies, just a glitch is part of a larger body of work exploring the profound ripple effects that forever alter the course of a journey.
This research revolves around the transformative power of adaptation and the intricate dance between control and chaos, stability and fragility.
Following a disruption in the making process, the ceramic vessel embodies movements, capturing the fluidity of clay and the pattern rising from the superposition of the coils. As the foundations waver and the alignment shifts, how to keep building without collapsing? When do you decide that it’s enough, that the risk is too big, and make the decision to stop?
Pushing the capacity to adapt, recover, find stability in the aftermath of those interferences, one can only observe what is emerging. In a field where precision and control reign, no more planned designs or big ideas, now is only what matters and is the only thing which can be impacted.
One has to let go of what they hoped or aspired to, and accept the reality. A fragile equilibrium is formed and finds solace in the resilient beauty of what has been generated by this glitch.
